Rust Colored Water in Raleigh
If your hot water has gradually or suddenly turned brown or rust-colored, it likely means that your water tank has rusted. There are a couple of reasons why that might have happened.
- Anode rod: Your water heater tank is made out of metal. Inside of your tank is an anode rod that helps protect it from breaking down over time. Also called a “sacrificial rod”, it hangs inside your water heater and absorbs the small electrical currents that would otherwise quickly rust the inside of your water heater. However, eventually, this rod gets entirely consumed by the rust and stops protecting your water heater. When this happens, it is almost always necessary to replace your water heater.
- Age: Over time, your water will start to rust and need to be replaced. An added benefit of a new water heater is that will probably be more efficient and use less energy than your older model.
Water Leaks
If you start to notice small puddles of water under your water heater, it could be signs of serious trouble. It could indicate that your water heater is rusted. It could also mean that the pressure inside your water tank is too high.
Not Enough Hot Water in Raleigh
Sometimes this just means that your water heater isn’t big enough to accommodate the demand of your house. However, it could also mean that there is sediment build up at the bottom of your water heater which is preventing the heat from actually getting to the water.
