Reliable Heat Pump Service for Year-Round Home Comfort
Durham winters rarely bring deep cold, but the mild, up-and-down weather of the Piedmont asks a lot of a heat pump. These systems run hard through hot, humid summers packed with afternoon thunderstorms, then switch to heating duty through the occasional freeze and the rare snow or ice event. That constant cycling, year after year across Durham County, is exactly what wears a heat pump down. And when it finally quits, you notice fast.
That is where JD Service Now comes in. We are a locally owned and operated company serving Durham and the greater Triangle since 2005, and you can reach us any time at (919) 680-1634. From the historic bungalows near Trinity Park and Old West Durham to the newer suburban builds out toward Hope Valley and the RTP corridor, we have seen the full range of homes and heat pump setups this area has to offer.
Common Heat Pump Problems We Fix in Durham
Heat pumps are efficient, but they have a lot of moving parts and plenty of ways to fail. Our technicians handle the issues Durham homeowners run into most.
Here is the problem with a struggling heat pump: it often keeps running while doing almost nothing, quietly driving up your energy bill. Some of the failures we see over and over include:
- Refrigerant leaks that leave the system unable to heat or cool
- Frozen outdoor coils during cold snaps and icy weather
- Reversing valves stuck between heating and cooling modes
- Failing capacitors, contactors, and worn compressors
- Short cycling that never lets your home reach the right temperature
- Blower motor and fan issues that cut airflow
- Thermostat and control board problems causing erratic behavior
The reality is that red clay soils and heavy late-summer rain from the remnants of tropical systems can also take a toll on outdoor units sitting at ground level. We inspect the whole system, find the real cause, and fix it right the first time.

Frequently Asked Questions
A few things people in Durham want to know before they call.
How quickly can you get to my home?
We offer 24/7 emergency service across Durham and the Triangle. Call (919) 680-1634 and we will get a licensed technician out as soon as possible, including nights and weekends.
Is it worth repairing an older heat pump?
Often, yes. A failing capacitor or contactor is a straightforward fix. But if your system is aging and the compressor is going, we will walk you through repair versus replacement honestly so you can decide what makes sense.
Do you service both heating and cooling on a heat pump?
Absolutely. A heat pump handles both, and we service every mode. If your unit heats but will not cool, or cools but will not heat, that points to a specific component we can diagnose.
