Raleigh Plumber: Why Condensation Forms on Your Toilet

If you’re a plumber in Raleigh, you learn to deal with a lot of leaks.
They’re easily the biggest plumbing problems homeowners face and plumbers
see a wider variety of leaks than most layman could even conceive. While
it always pays to be cautious, however, one of the leaks we see a lot
of isn’t a leak at all: its condensation built up on the surface of
your toilet. A toilet leak can be a serious problem, but you should make
sure that it is a leak and not condensation. Why does condensation form
on my toilet tank you ask?

Condensation is created when cold water enters your toilet tank, which
causes the surface of the tank to cool down. That in turn affects the
nearby air around the toilet tank. If the temperature on the surface of
the tank is low enough and the humidity is high enough, it will cause
the moisture in the air to condense on the porcelain of the toilet, resulting
in beads of water. Considering the amount of humidity we get in the Raleigh
area, such sweaty toilets are fairly common.

The good news is that they’re usually nothing to worry about, though
excessive condensation can drip down onto the floor and damage surrounding
materials. In most cases, you can wipe up the condensation with a towel,
or purchase a number of store-bought solutions such as liners and condensation
trays. The trouble arises if you wipe up the condensation and the water
continues to appear. In that case, you probably have a leak and a trained
plumber should be brought in.

The important thing is to determine is whether it really is condensation,
or whether you have a more significant problem. If you do, call on JD Service Now to help. We can repair or replace a cracked toilet, and offer
solutions to any other bathroom plumbing issue you might be having.
