How To Troubleshoot Your Furnace

There’s nothing worse than waking up on a winter day to a home that feels as cold inside as the temperature outside! 1. Make Sure The Thermostat is Set Properly

Check that your thermostat is set on “heat” and the temperature is positioned where you want it. Perhaps someone in your home turned down the thermostat or the switch accidentally got flipped. If the thermostat is set properly, turn it up a few degrees to see if you notice a difference or your system kicks on.

2. Replace Your Furnace Filter

Dirty filters can affect the air quality in your home and can shut off your furnace, especially new gas furnaces. Furnace filters should be changed every month to three months to allow for proper airflow.

3. Check Circuit Breakers

Check your circuit breakers to see if you may have possibly blown a fuse. Locate your fuse box, and look for the switch marked “furnace”. Leave the switch off for 30-60 seconds and turn the switch back on. If your issue is not remedied, it’s time to call JD!

4. Change The Thermostat Batteries

If you have a battery-powered thermostat, make sure that the batteries aren’t running low or are dead. If they are dead, the thermostat won’t be able to communicate with the furnace.
