  1. Disconnect sump pump from the discharge pipe after turning off your sump pump
  2. Cover the pump with plastic to prevent spills and carry it outside.
  3. Use your garden hose to rinse off the dirt on the surface of the pump and use the plastic scraper to clean out stuck debris. Then you can leave it out to dry.
  4. Drain any standing water in your sump pit using a shop vac.
  5. If the check valve can disassemble, you can do so to allow any remaining water to drain out. Then you can rinse it out, dry it, and reassemble it.
  6. Reattach your pump to the discharge pipe and plug your unit back in.
